An Open Letter from the President of MAGMA
I just wanted to take the opportunity to thank everyone that was involved in this year’s Fall Convention. From the singers and musicians to the overall general membership to the folks who took time to buy tickets and attend, thank you for making this one of the best conventions yet.
I could not have been prouder of our performing membership for 2008. It seemed that everyone was on top of their game this year and we had some of the best singing that I’ve heard anywhere! It was my privilege to re-introduce the Wanda Mountain Boys to the association, in my first year singing with them as well as welcoming our newest members, One Voice, Full Circle, Jericho and New Reason. They hit the ball out of the park and our existing members did the incredible job that we have come to expect in years past.
We missed some of our membership this year that had some conflicts with scheduling and look forward to their return in 2009. This will mark our 10th Anniversary as an association and we hope to make it a very special event. The folks at the Centenne Center do a great job. It is such a beautiful facility and we love to work with them.
I would also like to say thanks to Rhoades Music for doing an outstanding job running the sound for the convention. This is not an easy job but they did it well. Special thanks also to Dave Luebbers at Masters Touch Audio Visual for helping put together the Lifetime Achievement Award Videos. They turned out great! I want to congratulate our Lifetime Achievement Award Winners for 2008, Slim and Zella Mae Cox and Marty Moreland. I cannot think of any more deserving individuals. To me, the award presentations are some of the most precious times of the convention.
As always the fellowship was wonderful and it was good to see so many friends and fellow artists that I only get to see once a year. Robyn Mackey did an outstanding job planning and preparing the green room for this year. It is so nice to have a quiet place to enjoy a hot meal and visit with our friends. Thanks Karen Carr and Kevin Beckett for helping with the green room as well as your hard work on our ad book.
Keep watching the new website for news. We hope to keep it updated on a regular basis. This site is for our membership to utilize. Please send news related items to us, such as CD releases and special concerts (such as multi group events and opening for national artists) and we will forward them on to the webmaster to add to the news section. Keep in mind that it takes 7-10 days to update so send special concert announcements with plenty advanced notice so that you can get the most promotion possible.
Thanks again for allowing me to serve you as president. I have had the privilege to work with a wonderful group of officers and board members. Thank you, Kevin Womble, for being a hands on vice president and helping me carry the load. Thanks Janice Crow for all the hours and great detail that you put into keeping our meeting minutes and handling all of the little details that we give you. Alan Berry, thanks for keeping our books and taking care of the finances of this great association. To Kevin Beckett, Martha Warren, Dave Davis and Kent Mathis, thanks for all the hours that you give unselfishly to make this association possible. Randy Barron, you served as president for the last 5 years and made the transition easy. Thank you for being such a great example.
Most of all, thank you Jesus for allowing us the opportunity to serve you with our music and for giving us a reason to sing. Your Spirit was ever present as we sang our songs. Thanks for loving us!
