MAGMA Announces the Resignation of Janice Crow

It is with much regret that the Mid America Gospel Music Association announces the recent resignation of our Secretary and Board member, Janice Crow. Janice has served the association in this role for the last 12 years with much faithfulness. She has been a rock on the board and will certainly be missed.

As is often the case, life happens to all of us. Over the last year. Janice has been dealing with her brother’s illness and now finds herself as executor of his estate. With all the time requirements, she has made the decision to resign her position as secretary. She shared with us that this was a difficult and painful decision. She loves and still believes in the association and it’s membership and truly misses everyone.

The board would like to express our sincere thanks to Janice for her service to MAGMA and wish her the very best. Please continue to pray for her as she continues to serve God and her family. She will always be part of our MAGMA family.

Micah Turnbough Added to MAGMA Board

The Mid America Gospel Music Association Board of Directors is happy to announce the addition of Micah Turnbough.  Micah is a third generation Southern Gospel artist and has literally grown up in Southern Gospel Music.

His group, Keystone Voices, made their MAGMA debut at the 2017 convention and were well received.  It is exciting to see our younger generation involved in preserving this great music.  He will bring a new energy to the board.  Micah also brings an added perspective to the board as he serves as a Worship Pastor at Calvary Fellowship Church in Fenton, MO.

Micah will be highly involved in the newly renamed MAGMA Gospel Music Jubilee, formerly the MAGMA Convention, which will take place on November 2-3 in Farmington, MO.

Ron Mitchell Departs Wanda Mountain Boys

It is with great sadness that we announce the departure of Ron Mitchell from the Wanda Mountain Boys. Those of you that  have followed the group through the years have come to love Ron and have accepted  him into our Wanda Mountain Boy family.  The past year has been a difficult battle for Ron as he has had several health issues to deal with.

It has become increasingly difficult for him to travel as his leg injury has been slow in healing after he took a fall back  in March, injuring the Femur nerve. Recent tests show that there may be more damage than they initially thought and his recovery prognosis has been extended out to 8 more months to a year.

Ron and the group feel that it is best for him to take the time to heal and recover.  The added strain of keeping a heavy road schedule has made it difficult to keep up the rehabilitation schedule necessary.

As we always say, once a Wanda Mountain Boy always a Wanda Mountain Boy.  We look forward to ministering with Ron when  possible and ask that you keep him in your prayers.  Ron is by no way finished with his musical ministry and is looking ahead to future opportunities.

Ron will be replaced in the group by former WMB baritone, Claude Johnson who is coming out of retirement.  He will begin filling dates with us immediately.  We look forward to what God  has in store for WMB.

MAGMA Presents 2017 Lifetime Achievement Awards

The Mid America Gospel Music Association recently  presented their Lifetime Achievement Award to Gary O'Neal and Kent Mathes. The  presentation took place on November 3rd and 4th at the 18th Annual MAGMA convention. Both of these men have been involved in the association since it's inception and are charter board members.

Gary O'Neal has been involved in Gospel Music for the last 47 years and has served as president of MAGMA for the last 10 years.  He currently sings with the Wanda Mountain Boys.  His career highlights include singing with full time groups, the Brashears and Solid Gospel. He is also an established songwriter and  has had several songs recorded by a number of major Southern Gospel artists.

Kent Mathes has been involved in Gospel Music for 36 years.  His career highlights include singing with the Fox Brothers, a full time quartet based in Nashville, TN, and being featured on the top 10 single, "It's Time For Love".  He managed and performed with the popular midwest quartet, Crimson Gold for 28 years.

The MAGMA board would like to congratulate these two gentlemen for their service in the Gospel Music field and to the association.

Wanda Mountain Boys Welcome David Jenkins

The Wanda Mountain Boys are pleased to announce the addition of David Jenkins, singing bass. Dave has been away from the Gospel Music scene for a few years but many will remember him from his days with Golden Street Quartet and Higher Power Qt.

“This has been a three year journey to get us to this point.” stated group manager and lead singer, Gary O’Neal. “Dave approached us almost three years ago about singing with us and at the time, we were going through a major transition in the group.” “The timing just wasn’t right for us, as we found ourselves looking for a replacement for Claude Johnson, who retired from the group.”

“Over the past 3 years, we have re-establlished ourselves both vocally and financially and it has allowed us the opportunity to take on another member.” O’Neal stated. “ Adding a bass singer is like adding icing to a cake.” “ We first had to bake the cake” he joked.

David and his wife Terri are a welcome addition to the Wanda Mountain Boys family and he is already receiving glowing reviews from followers of the group.

“We asked Dave to come to a concert and listen to see if he was still interested” “We had him do a couple of songs with us and the response was immediate.” said O’Neal. “ I gave him 3 CDs and told him to listen and we would get back together in a couple of weeks and see how it was going.” “He showed up and did the entire concert with us, having learned the entire new recording”

The Wanda Mountain Boys have returned to their roots as a quartet. They are currently picking songs for a new CD project which will showcase the new sound of the group.

The group is currently taking bookings for 2018 as they finish up a busy 2017. Make sure to come and join the Wanda Mountain Boys in a concert near you.

MAGMA Welcomes the Willifords

The Mid America Gospel Music Association welcomes the Willifords to their roster of performing artists.

Dave and Becky Williford are a husband and wife duo from the heartland sharing their brand of music called "almost bluegrass". "Almost" because the Willifords sound is gospel, bluegrass, country, and piano instrumental all rolled together! Together, The Willifords are on a mission to share the message of hope and encourage young people to get involved in music, missions and aviation for a cause.

MAGMA Welcomes Keystone Voices

The Mid America Gospel Music Association board of directors are excited to announce the addition of an exciting trio of young people to their roster of performing members. Keystone Voices bring a refreshing sound and energy to our association and proves there is a bright future ahead for Southern Gospel Music.

Keystone Voices formed as a new trio in 2016 and have been rehearsing diligently on music they cannot wait to share with you. The two couples that came together to form this group are Micah & Courtney Turnbough and Daniel & Rachel Ross. Best friends since middle school, Daniel and Micah have always wanted to be involved in each other’s musical adventures and this time they are bringing their wives along with them. Fortunately, God has called both Micah and Daniel to serve as full-time Worship Ministers in their churches. Daniel (Sound Tech for Keystone Voices), recommended his wife Rachel to Micah and Courtney when they were searching for their 3rd vocalist. The group began rehearsing soon after and the rest is history! Courtney and Rachel alternate between Soprano and Alto, while Micah sings Tenor.

Being the visionary of the group, Micah began choosing songs that would perfectly fit the group’s overall sound, image, and most importantly, mission. Keystone Voices wants to be more than just a music group. They want to invite people to worship Jesus along with them as they bring joy to audiences through their music. Their youthful energy makes them fun to watch and their smiles are contagious. Having them in concert, you are sure to hear great music, be encouraged, and have lots of laughs along the way.

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord."
